Curchorem: In a shocking incident, a youth tried to set on fire the husband of his former teacher to take revenge on her for allegedly beating him up when he was a student in Std X.

He has been arrested by Quepem police.

According to police, the accused, Abhishek Hiremath (25), a resident of Kakumoddi in Quepem, effected entry into the house of his former teacher at Assolda, Quepem by removing the roof tiles around 2.30 am on Monday.

He poured petrol on the teacher’s husband, who is also a retired headmaster. When the accused was about to light a matchstick, the teacher’s husband luckily woke up and managed to grab the accused. The family later handed over the youth to Quepem police station.

Sources in the police informed that Abhishek has confessed to committing the crime to take revenge on the schoolteacher, who

had beaten him up when he was studying in Std X.

The youth has been booked under sections 457, 459, 380 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code and arrested. Police sub-inspector Mayur Sawant is investigating the case under the supervision of police inspector Pednekar.
