
Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged in many cities on Monday for the fourth consecutive day after the central excise duty cut, providing relief for millions of commuters.
The cost of one litre of petrol in Delhi stood at ₹103.97 per litre and of diesel at ₹86.67 per litre. In Mumbai, prices remained at ₹109.98/litre for petrol and ₹94.14 per litre for diesel.
Prices have remained unchanged in other cities as well. Petrol and diesel prices in Chennai are at ₹101.40 and ₹91.43 respectively.In Kolkata, petrol and diesel prices were at ₹104.67 and ₹89.79 respectively.
The central government had slashed excise duty on petrol and diesel prices by Rs 5 and Rs 10 on the eve of Diwali. Following this, 22 states/UTs,followed later by some others, reduced their VAT on fuel and diesel and brought down prices even further. Some states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Kerala, among others, were yet to reduce VAT.
