As part of a crackdown against selling and using cannabis in Hyderabad, cops have now resorted to checking commuters’ mobile phones to nab offenders. Hyderabad cops alongside excise officials are randomly stopping commuters and going through their smartphones to grab incriminating evidence. Commuters’ are being asked to open their private Whatsapp chats and other social media for any link to the narcotic. Meanwhile, netizens allege that this is a clear violation of the Supreme Court’s order on privacy. The anti-cannabis drive comes at a time when Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar has declared an all-out war on narcotics like cannabis.
