Melbourne Utd extend Vickerman's NBL deal
Melbourne United have locked in a key piece of their NBL championship puzzle with three-time title-winning head coach Dean Vickerman agreeing a contract extension.
Vickerman, who was already contracted for the upcoming season, has added two more years to his deal in a move that ties him to United until 2024.
Vickerman took over as United's head coach in 2017 and led the club to titles in 2018 and 2021, following a successful stint as head coach and assistant at the New Zealand Breakers.
United's quest for back-to-back championships begins on December 5 away to the Sydney Kings.
"I feel like right now, it's still my time to lead the team," Vickerman said.
"When I first came here, my goal was to try and build a consistent, high performing team.
"We wanted to contend for championships every year.
"Fortunately, we've won a couple and have come close a few other times, so we've had good success so far."
United captain Chris Goulding welcomed the news of Vickerman's contract extension.
"Success follows Dean and that isn't by accident," Goulding said.
"Ever since he got to the club the level of professionalism, the progression of our culture, and on court success have all improved and continue to improve.
"I'm very happy for him and his family, and very happy as a player that he will continue to be our coach at Melbourne United."
