Hyderabad: Prime Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao heavily criticized the BJP government, saying that the center did not provide support to Telangana and failed to deliver the benefits guaranteed in the AP reorganization law.
Tribal University, Bayyaram Steel Factory, Kazipet Coach Factory and many other projects have been insured to Telangana, but none have been delivered, he said at a press conference here on Sunday.
Chandrashekhar Rao, who was in a belligerent mood during the media interaction, listed the failed promises made to the young state of Telangana. He said under the Reorganization Act, the Center would approve Rs 450 crore as Backward Regions Grant Fund, but it is still pending. Not a single medical college was granted to Telangana, while 157 colleges were approved to other states. Even in the case of Navodaya schools, the Center did not approve a single school, although it was obligated to ratify one for each district.
Impressed with Mission Kakatiya, Niti Ayog recommended at the center to approve Rs 24 000 crore against Telangana. “But the center did not even give Rs 24.” He wondered what State President and Member of Parliament Bandi Sanjay and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy had done regarding these unfulfilled promises.
Even in the case of establishment of the High Court in Telangana, the center took five years to do so. “Why was it so delayed and what was the reason behind the delay?” he sought to know. He maintained that his government did not take a confrontational stance towards the Center, as “we wanted to maintain our cordial relations with the Center”. But the time has now come to fight for the welfare of the state, he said.
Regarding river water share disputes and the KRMB, he said the Center has been keeping the issues pending for the last seven years. “Why can the Center not refer the matter to the tribunal? “I demand that Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekawat refer the matter to the tribunal immediately,” Rao demanded. He said the BJP government was known for causing passions that cited international border issues with Pakistan and China, and for diverting political mileage. Chinese troops invaded Arunachal Pradesh and the center took no steps to counter it, he accused. “India’s GDP is lower than neighboring Nepal, Bangladesh and others. It shows the inefficiency and irresponsibility of the central government, ”Chandrashekhar Rao grumbled.
