Hyderabad: Osmania University’s DPIIT-IPR Chair recently organised a one-day online workshop on the theme ‘Promoting IPR Culture in Universities and other Higher Education Institutions’.
Addressing the workshop, OU Vice Chancellor Professor D Ravinder emphasised the need to document indigenous knowledge and rural inventions. He also explained the efforts made in the university to foster an IPR culture.
Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, joint secretary, GR Raghavender emphasised the importance of copyright and academic honesty in educational institutions.
Hidayatullah National Law University Vice Chancellor, Professor VC Vivekanandan recalled the initial efforts in national law schools and other institutions of higher learning to introduce an IPR culture. DPIIT-IPR Chair Professor GB Reddy explained the objectives of the IPR chair.
The technical session witnessed two presentations viz., one by Ashok Ram Kumar, IPR attorney and another by M Vijay Kumar, IPR attorney and former technical member of IPAB, Chennai. Ram Kumar had drawn a roadmap for the universities and other higher education institutions for developing the IPR culture therein, including the formulation of an IPR policy, strategy for monetisation of IPRs created in the universities.
Vijay Kumar explained the role the trademarks play in enterprises including startups, innovation and incubation centres in universities. A total of 1,910 participants registered for the workshop.
