Four people have died after a taxi crashed into a truck on Friday near Worcester.
The taxi is understood to have aborted an attempt at overtaking, but hit a truck while moving back into its lane.
Western Cape transport department spokesperson Deana February said that altogether 12 people were taken to Worcester Provincial Hospital, with five of them seriously injured.
Two people were already dead at the scene after the crash at 17:24 in Kantevlei, 20km outside of Worcester, on the N1, in the direction of De Doorns on Friday, while the two others died later.
Another of the crash survivors was still in a critical condition at Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town.
"We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased," said February.
