Telangana Waqf Board submits 37 FIRs, cancels 150 illegal registrations in 3 months

Hyderabad: The Telangana Waqf Council has taken several important steps over the past three months to protect the waqf properties.

According to the report presented by the Chief Executive Officer of the Telangana Waqf Board Shahnawaz Qasim (IPS) from August 6 to November 3, the board issued 6074 notices under section 54 (1) of 1995 Waqf Act for the illegal possession of the waqf countries.

The report also states that 989 documents were sent to the Revenue Division officers of various districts during the above period to take steps to remove the illegal possession of the waqf properties. The report states that 37 FIRs are also registered under section 200 of CRPC.

Shahnawaz Qasim said the details of the illegal possession of the properties were notified to the Stamps and Registration Division.

He added that by the GO 15 of the Telangana government dated 22 September 2020, the registrations of the occupied properties were automatically closed.

He said the Registration Division had been instructed not to register any Waqf properties. He further added that the Municipal Administration and Urban Development and the Panchayat Raj department had also been instructed not to grant building permits on the occupied lands.

The Executive Officer noted that 63 applications had been lodged with the Waqf Tribunal, of which the court had ruled on 22 cases in favor of the council, thus ensuring the protection of 56 hectares of land.

He added that by submitting reports in six different courts, the TS Waqf council had secured 884 acres and 34 guntas from its lands. He further said that the board in collaboration with the Revenue Division reclaimed 22 acres and 25 guntas.

Qasim noted that the 5-hectare occupied waqf lands in the Vikarabad district and 30 guntas in the Medak district were seized by court orders by the TS Waqf council respectively.
