
A fire broke out at a flat of a 15-storey residential building in the Kandivali area of Mumbai causing one death. Another resident was injured and rushed to civic-run Shatabdi Hospital, officials said.
Officials of the Mumbai Fire Brigade said that the fire was reported on the fourteenth floor of the Hansa Heritage building on Mathuradas Road in Kandivali (West) at around 8.30 pm on Saturday.
Officials added that it was a Level-1 fire and four fire engines, three jumbo water tankers were sent to the site along with other equipment to douse the fire.
Two persons had been taken to Shatabdi Hospital, an official at the hospital said. One was declared dead on arrival with 100 per cent burns. The official added that the identity of the deceased was not clear yet, due to the extent of burn injuries. Another resident brought to the hospital was stable and is undergoing treatment.
Till the time of going to press, efforts were on to douse the fire. Mayor Kishori Pednekar also reached the spot to inspect the ground situation.
The reason for the fire is not yet clear, a fire brigade official has said.
