New Delhi: The newly formed Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Sanjay Singh, Deputy Director-General of the Narcotics Control Bureau, investigated six drug cases on Saturday, including Aryan Khan who was lodged at the Mumbai Zonal office.
Singh, a 1996 group IPS official, will take over the investigation into all six cases previously led by zonal director Sammer Wankhede, including the sensational vessel party attack of October 2 in which Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood master Shah Rukh Khan , was arrested.
The NCB set up a SIT led by Singh on Friday to investigate these cases and removed Wankhede from the investigation team a week after the agency investigated the alleged allegations of bribery and extortion against him.
The NCB statement issued on Friday said that a SIT consisting of NCB Headquarters’ Operational Branch officers, had been set up by the Director – General, NCB to oversee a total of six cases from the NCB Mumbai Sonal Unit take what has national and international implications, in order to conduct deeper research to find forward and backward links.
The statement also said that no officer or officers have been removed from their current roles and they will continue to assist the Operating Branch investigation as required until any specific orders to the contrary are issued.
It is reiterated that the NCB across India operates as a single integrated agency. However, Wankhede denied that he had been removed from the case and said: “I was not removed from the investigation. It was my written petition in court that the case be investigated by a central agency. The Aryan Khan case and Sameer Khan case are therefore being investigated by the Delhi Special Investigation Team. This is coordination between NCB teams from Delhi and Mumbai. ”
He was under a cloud for a variety of reasons, including allegations of corruption, false caste certification, a lavish lifestyle, and targeting high-profile individuals, especially from Bollywood and glamorous industry with relatively insignificant drug seizures, and so on.
Maharashtra cabinet minister Nawab Malik and Wankhede have been embroiled in an unprecedented war of words over the past month, with the NCP leader making a series of shocking revelations over the head of the NCB Mumbai, in addition to an affidavit by a witness accusing him of extortion, allegations. of politicians of the Bharatiya Janata party and wanted criminals lined up during the shipwreck, etc.
The combated Wankhede ran from pillar to post to politicians to statutory panels to the courts seeking protection against action against him, and was recently given relief in the form of three working days notice in case of arrest by the police.
