Eskom has announced that load shedding will be dropping to Stage 3 from 21:00 on Thursday night, and will continue until 05:00 on Friday morning.

Parts of the N1 between Witkoppen and Rivonia roads will be closed on Sunday as Eskom needs to work on high voltage power lines in the area.

The roads affected:

  • Between the N1 freeway north and south between William Nicol and Rivonia offramps; and
  • R564 Witkoppen Road between Umhlanga Avenue/Cambridge Road and Estelle Road.

The work, due to take place from 8:00 to 16:00, is to replace the Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) and the Earth wire on the Craighall Minerva high voltage transmission overhead power line crossing the N1 freeway and Witkoppen Road.

The OPGW and Earth wire is to be replaced and strung sequentially.

It will take 15 minutes at the start of each phase to allow the joint of the new and old OPGW to be pulled across the freeway.

Traffic would have to be stopped frequently for each phase, and there would be one lane open for traffic to flow when possible.

Eskom apologised for the inconvenience and appealed for restraint while its staff completed the job.
