With a strong opening weekend, ‘Sooryavanshi’, starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, has provided a light of optimism to the industry. On Friday, the Rohit Shetty movie grossed Rs. 26.29 crore at the box office.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “Sooryavanshi roars on Day 1… revives biz… Records excellent numbers, despite 50% occupancy in the largest market [#Maharashtra]… Day 2 is super strong… Has potential to grow over the weekend… cinema and cinegoers are back… Fri ₹26.29 cr. #India biz. #Diwali”
He even revealed the area-wise distribution of business. “Delhi and UP: ₹5.58 crore. Gujarat and Saurashtra: ₹5.16 cr, Maharashtra and Goa: ₹4.57 cr [50% occupancy] #Sooryavanshi #India,” he wrote.
“The early territory numbers (of Sooryavanshi) are coming in very similar to Golmaal Again but it's likely that Mumbai will lag due to Maharashtra being at 50% occupancy,” a Boxofficeindia.com reported stated.
“The collections of Eternals are also solid and could finish near the 8 crore nett, making it the best result for Hollywood post the pandemic. Together, both films will be looking at a 33-35 crore nett total for the big Diwali holiday which is similar to what Housefull 4 did in 2019 on this very day,” the report said.
'Sooryavanshi' premiered to great reviews on Friday. It contrasted with the Hollywood film 'Eternals', which was panned by critics all around the world.
