MPRFM asks HAC not to mislead

Imphal, November 05 2021: Movement for People's Rights Forum, Manipur (MPRFM) has appealed to the leaders of Hill Areas Committee (HAC) not to mislead the public on the proposed District Council Bill 2021 .

A press release issued by MPRFM convenor Gonmei Kuripou claimed that the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Councils, 2021 recommended by the HAC is less about devolution of power to Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) and more about granting power to the former (HAC) .

Saying that granting more power can be done by the Parliament alone, Gonmei Kuripou asked why the HAC proposed a Bill which is not within the power of the State legislature.

The convenor further asked if the Bill is not an election gimmick to mislead the people for getting votes in the coming Assembly election and discredit the achievement of the BJP led Government in developing hill areas of Manipur.

Claiming that this 'misinformed' campaign about the District Council Bill, 2021 in hill areas by some politicians is a clear sign of frustration, he appealed to the public not to succumb to such 'cheap' political propaganda and remain united.
