MLA Ranjit alleges 10 pc commission demand by MI

Kakching, November 04 2021: Sugnu AC MLA K Ranjit has urged the Chief Minister to look into the preposterous demand made by the Minor Irrigation (MI) Department for giving 10 per cent commission on the work order for various irrigation projects in the constituency estimated to cost around Rs 2.80 crore, or have the work order withheld.
He further urged the CM to ensure the work order is granted at the earliest in the interest of the poor farmers.
MLA Ranjit made the appeal during a one-day political conference of INC organised jointly by Congress Election Campaign Committee, Kakching Khunou and Development Committee Kakching Khunou at the premises of Ima Kalika Laibung in Kakching Khunou Municipal Council Ward no 1 Thongam on Thursday.
The MLA also extended a warm welcome to 173 voters from 43 households, who were earlier affiliated to other parties, but have joined Congress on the occasion.
MLA Ranjit informed that the MI department was requested for provided the work order of five projects including a Rs 58.44 lakh project in Kakching Khunou for construction of PW across Purumlou river with line canal; Rs 58.44 lakh project construction of PW across Muklangba Maril with line canal; Rs 97.41 lakh project in Umathel Heipihoubi village for construction of irrigation tank at Umathel Heipi ching foothill; Rs 33.31 lakh project for construction of RLI scheme with line canal in Khabuk village of Sugnu AC and Rs 33.31 lakh project for construction of RLI scheme with line canal in Serou Makha Leikai, totaling around Rs 2.80 crore, the tender and bank guarantee processes for which have been completed.
However, the department demanded a cut of around 10 percent as commission or else the work order will not be provided.
As the ruling government has been shouting endlessly to uproot corruption from the state completely, it should take serious note of this matter and take necessary action in the interest of the poor farmers, the MLA demanded.
Ranjit then went on to say that when the CM was enquired about this matter, the latter said that he had no knowledge about the work order.
Thus, the MLA called for the CM to cancel the order for 10 per cent commission if he (CM) is truly thinking about the problems of the farmers, and initiate strict disciplinary actions against the top officials of MI department.
As part of the programme; MLA K Ranjit handed over wheelchairs, one each to two differently abled people.
He also extended a financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to Sugnu Kendra Disable Person Welfare Association.
The programme was also attended by Kakching District Block Congress Committee vice president A Manihal, Kakching Khunou Development Committee secretary Thingnam Rishikesh and leaders of Sugnu Block Mahila Congress Committee.
