Six Colorado Springs Police Department members connected to a fatal police shooting have been identified by the department.

They are: Lt. Mark Chacon, Sgt. Jordan Hengst, Sgt. Jason Reeser; officers Heather Mesmer, Robert Comstock and Paul Hubbard.

Ahmad Akeem Abdul Muhammad, 30, was shot on Oct. 28 when police responded to a report of a man firing a handgun into an occupied vehicle in the 1600 block of South Nevada Avenue, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. The driver of the vehicle that was shot at fled the area.

Muhammad was shot when he pointed a firearm at officers, police said. He died Sunday in a Colorado Springs hospital.

The CSPD released the following information on the six department members:

  • Chacon has been with the department since July 2002 and currently supervises the downtown area response team and homeless outreach teams.
  • Hengst, March 2008, is currently assigned to the motors unit.
  • Reeser , January 2004, is assigned to the motors unit.
  • Mesmer, July 2019, is assigned to Gold Hill patrol.
  • Comstock, October 2012, is assigned to the K-9 unit.
  • Hubbard, since July 2017, is assigned to Gold Hill patrol.

The six have been placed on paid-administrative leave per department policy. The police shooting is being investigated by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
