New York, Nov 3 (UNI) Eric Adams, a former New York City police captain, elected the City Mayor on Tuesday, according to media reports.
Democrat Eric Adams has become the second black mayor in New York history. He defeated Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa for the coveted post.
The Brooklyn borough president and erstwhile state senator will replace Mayor Bill de Blasio in January next year.
On Tuesday night, the former cop vowed to take New York City to a new high and work for the poor, homeless and disadvantaged communities.
He also promised to reduce the crime in the city and create jobs.
He took to twitter and wrote: "It's official -- our five-borough, knock-every-door, reach-every-voter campaign was successful: We have won the race for Mayor of New York City!
This is my dream come true, and I couldn’t be more proud to represent the City that we all love as your Mayor-elect."
