Sensex drops 257.14 pts

Mumbai, Nov 3 (UNI) The BSE Sensex on Wednesday slid another 257.14 pts to close at 59,771.92 following brisk selling in Telecom, Bankex, Auto and Consumer Durable stocks amid weak Asian Market.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too fell by 59.75 pts at 17,829.20.
In opening trade, the BSE Sensex shot up by 246 pts at 60,275.21. It surged 332 pts at 60,361.82, days high.
Later, it went in red, as it tanked 477 pts to 59,552.49, days low, before closing at 59,771.92, sliding 257.14 pts from its previous close.
The sensex registered days high and low at 60,361.82 and 59,552.49 pts respectively.
The Nifty recorded days high and low at 17,988.75 and 17,757.95 pts respectively.
The sectoral indices like Telecom, Bankex, Auto and Consumer Durable stocks kept the market under pressure for another session today.
Telecom was a major loser, down 1.50 pc followed by Bankex by 1.32 pc, Auto by 1.13 pc and Consumer Durable by 1.07 pc.
In scrips, Sun Pharma was the main loser as fell by 3.06 pc to Rs 789.70 followed by IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel, Kotak Bank and ICICI Bank.
The Mid Cap declined by 0.20 pc and Small Cap by 0.32 pc.
In 30 scrips, 13 advanced while 17 declined.
Asian Market was also seen negative, Hang Seng was down a per cent, and Kospi dropped 1.3 per cent.
China's Shanghai Composite and the Straits Times were down 0.3 per cent each.
The S&P/ASX200 gained 0.9 per cent, and Taiwan Weighted index added 0.3 per cent.
The Stock Markets (BSE and NSE) on Thursday will open for one hour from 1815 hrs to 1915 hrs
for the 'Muhurat Trading' session on Diwali to the start of the new Samvat 2078.
It is believed that Muhurat trading brings prosperity and wealth throughout the year.
On Friday, there will be no trading in stock market for Diwali.
