NEW YORK: Former policeman Eric Adams won New York's mayoral election on Tuesday, according to US networks and unofficial results that showed him way ahead of Republican rival Curtis Sliwa. NBC, CBS and New York 1 called the race for Adams shortly after polls closed at 09:00 pm (0100 GMT Wednesday), meaning he will become just the second African American to lead America's biggest city. Unofficial results released by New York City's Board of Elections projected that Adams would win more than 70 percent of the votes.
