    Stock market update: Mining stocks down as market falls

    NEW DELHI: Mining shares closed lower in the Wednesday's session.

    MOIL(up 4.21%), Madhav Marbles and Granites(up 2.28%), Pokarna(up 0.85%), Coal India(up 0.33%) and NMDC Ltd(up 0.04%) stood among the top gainers.

    KIOCL(down 3.35%), Ashapura Minechem(down 2.24%), Aro Granite Industries(down 1.29%), Orissa Minerals Development Company(down 1.13%), Gujarat Mineral Dvpt Corporation(down 0.96%), Oriental Trimex(down 0.51%) and 20 Microns(down 0.26%) were among the top losers of the day.

    The NSE Nifty50 index ended 59.75 points down at 17829.2, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 257.14 points at 59771.92.

    Larsen & Toubro(up 4.07%), Grasim Industries(up 2.38%), UPL Ltd(up 2.33%), UltraTech Cement(up 2.26%), Asian Paints(up 2.17%), Hindalco Industries(up 2.11%), Indian Oil Corporation(up 1.34%), State Bank of India(up 1.14%), JSW Steel(up 1.1%) and SBI Life(up 1.09%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

    On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries(down 3.37%), IndusInd Bank(down 2.85%), Bharti Airtel(down 2.08%), Kotak Mahindra Bank(down 1.88%), ICICI Bank(down 1.87%), Hero MotoCorp(down 1.6%), HDFC Bank(down 1.57%), Titan Company Ltd(down 1.47%), Mahindra & Mahindra(down 1.45%) and Britannia Industries(down 1.44%) closed in the red.
