Manchester United fan says Cristiano Ronaldo is ‘keeping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in a job’ as United supporters react to Atalanta draw

Cristiano Ronaldo saved Manchester United’s skin last night, scoring a late equaliser in the Red Devils’ Champions League clash against Atalanta.

But according to Manchester United fans who called up talkSPORT after the game, the Portuguese’s goal will only prolong the club’s dire form under Solskjaer.

Ronaldo’s 91st minute equaliser has bought the Portuguese’s former teammate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer more time to prove he is the right man for the job

“He’s [Ronaldo] the greatest football player of all time,” one fan told Jamie O’Hara and Jason Cundy on talkSPORT’s Sports Bar, “he’s keeping Ole in a job!”.

One United fan did speak positively of the Norweigan, saying his side had played well and that he couldn’t understand all the moaning, clashing with ex-Chelsea defender Jason Cundy.

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took us to second place, who was unbeaten away from home all last season, now he’s had a sticky start to the season and the knives are out”.

Cundy responded to the rare positivity of the United fan by saying “Steven you are shocking as a team, you get out of jail every week”.

United’s win against Spurs last weekend may well have been a false dawn

Meanwhile another Red Devils fan was reluctant to allow Ronaldo’s saving grace to distract him from the low standard his team have dropped to this season.

“I don’t understand what some people are seeing! Take off the sentimentality glasses and just see what you’re seeing, for 45 minutes the Atalanta keeper in the second half didn’t make a save.

“This idea that we’re progressing, in the ‘United way’, what five at the back without any wingers is the United way?

“He is stealing a living, he’s not fit to be a United manager!

“We are not going anywhere with this guy in charge and I just hope people see it”.

There may well have been a mix of views from the United faithful on air on Tuesday night, but all will agree that Solksjaer team need to figure out how to string a run of form together soon, and fast.
