The Glasgow climate conference is said to be the last chance for saving the living planet. It is no wonder that we have been suffering from new trouble of eco-anxiety. This risk might have led to American President Joe Biden dozing for as many as 22 seconds. He is reported to have nodded off for the first 7 seconds and then again started dozing.
It is sort of a scene that has become increasingly common among the aged ones. He is completing 79 years of age, therefore, his fatigue appears to have mixed with the grave concern of the polluted, dusty climatic conditions. Accordingly, he dozed off in a tremendous feeling of responsibility.
Eco-anxiety appears to be associated with all of those complicated feelings that happen in the face of the prevailing climate crisis and in particular, thought to be as a means of dormancy. People are looking to leaders who have been authorised to protect our expectations and seem to be averting the strategies with urgent necessity. It is this problem that imposes upon us.
For Biden, it may have been said that he was attending an important climate conference but his sleep presented a scene of an inconvenient truth. Was he concerned with an overwhelming feeling of anguish, frustration and too much resentment that sent him into sleep owing to the realisation of eco-anxiety that he has supposedly been thinking in his mind?
Biden’s eyelids dangled for the extended moment as Eddie Ndopu, a South African activist, said, “I call on you to commit to concrete actions to stop the destruction of this magnificent planet.”
