Hyd: Four arrested for fraudulent man of Rs 38 lakh, seized 20 lakh

Hyderabad: Four scammers were arrested by Kachiguda police on Tuesday for their involvement in a case of ‘distraction’. After their arrest, Rs 20 lakh was seized in their possession. Police are on the lookout for the other two who are starting in the case.

According to police, the four accused were arrested after a complaint was lodged with the police by Mohd. Abdul Afroz, who said he cheated Rs 38.5 lakhs while trying to buy gold at a lower price.

Afroz was informed of the scheme through a Facebook post and contacted the accused to buy gold at a cheaper price. The accused met him after two weeks of continuous conviction. Afroz was asked to follow a protocol for the purchase and bring Rs 42 lakh for one kilogram of gold.

At the time of purchase, the accused counted Rs 42 lakhs in cash and put it in their briefcase and then distracted the victim by handing him over in a conversation to provide him with the gold at a discount of Rs 3,5 lakhs. An accomplice, who is still an accused in the case, exchanged the briefcase with cash for another similar one.

The accused apparently apologized to themselves and said that they had forgotten the key to the briefcase with the gold inside and took the bag of money with them to return later.

Some of the accused were allegedly cheated by others in counterfeit currency / toy currency, treasury cases earlier, and cheated their refuge into fraud to recover from the financial losses incurred. The accused were apparently involved in many other cases, including a case of illegal logging, extortion, etc.
