Nov. 3—An altercation at a residence in St. Paul's Macalester-Groveland neighborhood led to a 32-year-old being shot early Wednesday, police said.

Officers who were dispatched to the 1400 block of St. Clair Avenue about 2 a.m. found the man in the front yard of the residence and he had an apparent gunshot wound to the chest, according to Sgt. Natalie Davis, police spokeswoman.

Paramedics took him to Regions Hospital, where he was in stable condition. He wasn't able to tell officers who shot him, Davis said.

Witnesses reported there was an altercation between the man, who doesn't live at the residence, and another man before the shooting, according to police. Officers knocked and called for people to come outside, but they didn't receive a response. The St. Paul police SWAT team went inside after obtaining a search warrant and did not find anyone, Davis said.

The shooting is under investigation and no one was under arrest as of Wednesday morning.
