Pitt G Nike Sibande (ACL) to miss season
Pittsburgh senior guard Nike Sibande tore his right anterior cruciate ligament in a Monday exhibition game against Gannon and will miss the entire season.
The school announced that an MRI exam performed Tuesday detected the tear.
"I am really disappointed for Nike," Panthers coach Jeff Capel said in a news release. "He has been outstanding in his preparation for this season and has emerged as one of the most respected leaders in our program. He has done an amazing job dealing with adversity in the past and I am confident he will tackle his recovery in the same manner."
Sibande sustained the injury in the first half of the 89-64 exhibition victory.
Sibande averaged 6.9 points and 3.0 rebounds in 14 games (eight starts) last season after transferring from Miami (Ohio).
Pitt opens the regular season on Nov. 9 at home against The Citadel.
