Renault unveiled the new-generation Kangoo last year and now it is the turn of the fully electric variant to arrive. The Renault Kangoo Van E-TECH Electric with a 300 km (186-mile) range, will be available in Europe starting from spring 2022 alongside the diesel and gasoline variants.
Renault has sold around 70,000 electric Kangoo vans in Europe since 2011 and is aiming for an even wider adoption for the new generation since zero-emission LCVs are growing in popularity.

In terms of powertrain, the Renault Kangoo Van E-TECH Electric is fitted with an electric motor producing 121 hp (90 kW / 122 PS) and 245 Nm (180.7 lb-ft) of torque. The 45 kWh battery is offering a range of 300 km (186 miles) according to the WLTP cycle, which is greater than rival proposals. It is also located under the floor so it doesn’t affect cargo space.
Renault is offering three types of chargers – the standard 11kW for households, the optional 22kW for public terminals, and the 80kW DC rapid charger. When plugged into an 11kW wall box, the battery takes 3 hours and 50 minutes to go from 15 percent to 100 percent, while an 80 kW charger adds 170 km (106 miles) of range in just 30 minutes.
There are six driving modes including the Eco which caps the power output in favor of the range. The driver can choose between three levels of regenerative braking – Sailing, Drive, and Brake, with the latter making the best out of the Adaptive Regenerative Brake System (ARB) which works together with the conventional hydraulic braking. There is also a heat pump in the air conditioning system maximizing efficiency.

The electric Kangoo has the same capabilities as the variants with conventional powertrains including the 1.45 m (57 inches) wide side openings, the 3.9 cubic meters cargo space, the 600 kg (1,322 pounds) payload, and the 1,500 kg (3,307 pounds) towing capacity. In the near future, Renault will offer a long-wheelbase variant of the Kangoo Van E-TECH Electric with 4.9 cubic meters of cargo space and an 800 kg (1,764 pounds) payload.
Optional equipment includes an 8-inch touchscreen for the Renault Easy Link infotainment, 10-inch digital instrument cluster, heated windscreen, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, and various ADAS including Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go.
The Renault Kangoo Van E-TECH Electric will be manufactured in Maubeuge, France alongside the rest of the Kangoo range and the sibling Mercedes-Benz Citan and Nissan Townstar models, after the recent €450 million investment. The electric motors and charging units are manufactured at the Cleon factory in Normandy, France. Rival models include the Citroen e-Berlingo, Peugeot e-Partner, Opel Combo-e, and Toyota Pro-Ace City since VW and Ford are not offering fully electric versions of their small vans at the moment.
