Apple is making changes to the loaner iPhone it offers during lengthier repair times. As per Mac Rumors, it will start offering the iPhone XR instead of the iPhone 8 to those who have to submit their own iPhones for repairs. This will be applicable to both Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers in the United States and other regions.

The device change will come into effect starting November 4th i.e. in the next couple of days. A user will be eligible to receive the loaner iPhone XR when it will be determined that his iPhone must be shipped to the service center to get repaired. It is a process where it usually takes some time until the user can get his iPhone back. This is where the loaner device comes into the picture and helps users continue with their daily lives instead of just waiting.

The iPhone XR was launched in 2018 and it arrived in the market just a year after the iPhone 8. Even though the two models have a difference of just 12 months, the newer one offers a number of improvements to users. It has a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina display which is significantly bigger than the 4.7-inch panel. It also has Face ID biometric authentication support whereas iPhone 8 relied on Touch ID i.e. fingerprint scanning.

There is obviously a newer Apple A12 Bionic chipset for faster and smoother performance. The battery capacity also received a bump and is nearly 3,000mAh on the iPhone XR. All in all, the users will be receiving a modern-looking and better-performing iPhone model as a loaner device.
