JD(U) wins both Tarapur and Kusheshwarsthan, stability of Nitish government gets a boost

Patna, Nov 2 (UNI) JD(U) on Tuesday won by-elections for both Kusheshwarsthan and Tarapur
seats, giving a big boost to stability of Nitish led NDA government surviving on thin majority in
Bihar.
JD(U) candidate Aman Bhushan Hazari defeated his nearest rival Ganesh Bharti of RJD by a
margin of 12,698 votes in Kusheshwarsthan seat.
Similarly, in Tarapur seat, JD(U) candidate Rajeev Kumar Singh defeated Arun Kumar Shah of
RJD by a margin of 3,821 votes. JD(U) had also won both the seats in 2020 Bihar Assembly
elections. These seats had fallen vacant after deaths of sitting JD(U)MLA from Tarapur Mewalal Chaudhary and another sitting JD(U) MLA from Kusheshwar asthan Shashi Bhushan Hazari.
In last Bihar Assembly elections held in 2020, JD(U) had won 43 seats, BJP 74, VIP and HAM
four seats each giving strength to NDA of total 125 seats, only three more than magic number of
122 in 243 member capacity of Bihar Assembly. On the other hand, Grand Alliance had won
110, of which RJD bagged 75 seats, Congress 19 seats, CPI(ML) 12 seats, CPI and CPI(M) two
seats each. Other smaller parties had won 7 seats while one Independent also emerged victorious.
During campaigning for by-elections in Tarapur kusheshwar asthan assembly seats, leader of the opposition Tejaswi Prasad Yadav had claimed that Nitish Kumar government would collapse if
his party RJD won both the seats triggering political realignment in the state.
Even RJD chief Lalu Prasad had claimed that results of by- elections for both the seats would
mark the end of Nitish Kumar government and described it as immersion (visarjan) in his inimical style.
Deaths of two sitting JD(U) MLAs Shashi Bhushan Hazari and Mewalal Choudhary had reduced the strength of JD(U) by two, posing more challenge to Nitish Kumar government already surviving on thin majority.
Results of Tarapur and Kusheshwarsthan going in favour of JD(U) had given big boost to stability
of Nitish Kumar government as RJD was pinning hope to win both the seats and also trying to woo smaller parties of NDA like HAM and VIP to muster required support for formation of the next government after dislodging the present regime.
Soon after results of both Tarapur and Kusheshwarsthan were did declared, leader of the opposition Tejaswi Prasad Yadav gracefully accepted the defeat saying verdict of the people in democracy was supreme.
He also did not complain of any favouritism of administration towards ruling party as he had done earlier in last Bihar Assembly elections.
The defeat of RJD in both seats would definitely dampen the spirit of Mr Yadav and his father
Lalu Prasad to make any attempt in near future to disturb the stability of Nitish Kumar government. Smaller parties in NDA would not be paying heed to any allurement of RJD in its attempt to
destabilise Nitish Kumar government, remarked a political analyst.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar thanked the people for extending their support to JD(U) candidates fielded as NDA candidates in by- elections Kusheshwar asthan and Tarapur seats.
People were masters in democracy, he noted
