Ghaziabad: A video purportedly showing a scuffle between doctors and a
lab technician is being widely shared on social media. The lab technician (LT) has accused the doctors of mounting undue pressure on him for paying money in lieu of daily attendance. An enquiry has been marked into the matter by the health department.
The matter relates to the lab technician and the doctor posted at an urban primary health centre (
UPHC) located in
Muradnagar. The lab technician alleged that doctors have been putting pressure on him to pay monthly, and when he refused to do so he was beaten up.
“Doctors are putting pressure on me to not come to the hospital and keep taking the salary. When I refused, I was beaten up,” the lab technician wrote in the letter to the chief medical officer (CMO).
The incident reportedly took place on October 30. Along with giving a complaint letter to the CMO regarding the incident, the LT has also sent a copy of the letter to the district magistrate.
However, the doctors refuted the allegations saying that the LT misbehaved with them when he was marked absent for not coming to the UPHC. “The LT had taken leave without informing and he later misbehaved with the medical officer in-charge (the doctor) when he was marked absent. As the MOIC could not control the LT’s misbehaviour he called his relative, who is also a doctor, posted at another centre. The video shows that they are trying to contain the LT who was misbehaving with them,” said a health officer.
District surveillance officer Dr RK Gupta, who is also the nodal officer for the national urban health mission (NUMHM), said that the matter is being investigated. “It is a matter of indiscipline. There are several complaints against the LT of misbehaviour. We are getting the matter investigated. Action will be taken against the guilty after investigation,” he said.
