Tyra Banks Under Fire For TMI Comments About Suni Lee’s ‘DWTS’ Embarrassing Digestive Issues

Suni Lee may have gone gold at the Olympics this year, but Dancing With the Stars presented an even trickier task on last night’s (Nov. 1) episode of the ABC game show. While she had planned to dance a paso doble for Queen night with her partner, Sasha Farber, the gymnast faced some unexpected health issues. Against all odds, she completed her dance to “We Will Rock You.” The dance was so fast-paced, however, that it forced her to run off stage after completion.

“Suni is not feeling so good,” host Tyra Banks announced. “Not COVID! Not covid at all! But she’s not feeling well so she danced sick and she had to leave. But she’s OK!”

Before she performed on last night’s episode, Lee gave an update to her fans: “hey guys,” the performer tweeted. “not feeling my best tonight but i will still be dancing for queen night! make sure you guys vote for me and sash! each week is getting scarier & intense !!”

The judges, who appreciated her persistence and dedication to the show, rewarded Lee with scores of three eights and a nine.

“Oh, you did so well, honey,” judge Bruno Tonioli enthused. “In spite of not feeling well, you rocked that paso doble. I don’t know where you are. Sharp! It was fantastic!”

Still sick, Lee returned later in the competition for the relay dances. Shocked by her courage, Banks continued to press the teen for more info.

“Suni, I got to ask you,” Banks said. “I know you’ve been struggling all day and, like, dude is like, you’re throwing up. This is live TV and you ran off!”

And yet, Lee continued on the show with grace. She ended up advancing to next week’s show — hopefully, she’ll have fully recovered by then.

“It’s very scary because it’s like, I’ve never done that before so I was kind of embarrassed and I knew that if I didn’t come out here I’d be very disappointed in myself,” Lee said.

While fans were impressed by Lee’s performance on last night’s episode, they were non-plussed by Banks’ awkward statements on the whole matter. “Poor Suni!” one user tweeted. “Tyra just needs to stfu about her stomach issues. Those suck enough without the entire world knowing.”

Lee shared another statement online thanking fans for their overwhelming support after last night’s health issues. “just wanted to thank everyone for all the kind words & support,” she tweeted. “definitely wasn’t the night i had hoped to have but it’s okay ! we made it another week !! thank you for voting, let’s go !”
