The NIA is also probing the case. LUDHIANA RURAL police have arrested two persons for allegedly sheltering one of the accused in the Jalalabad bike blast case.
One person was killed in the blast, which had taken place on September 15 this year.
The accused they were sheltering had managed to flee, said police.
Police registered a fresh FIR against Ranjit Singh from Nahinga De Jhugge village of Ferozepur, his father Jaswant Singh, Tarlok Singh from Khurshaidpura village of Ludhiana and Balwant Singh of Walipur Khurd village of Ludhiana.
While Ranjit Singh was a wanted accused in the motorbike blast case, his father Jaswant Singh and two acquaintances Tarlok Singh and Balwant Singh have been booked for allegedly sheltering him.
Police said that following a tip-off, a raid was conducted at Tarlok Singh’s house in Khurshaidpura village of Ludhiana where Ranjit was allegedly hiding. However, before he could be arrested, he managed to flee.
Police however arrested Jaswant and Balwant. Tarlok Singh and Ranjit Singh are still absconding, said police.
On September 15, a motorbike fitted with “explosive material” had exploded in Jalalabad town of border district Fazilka, killing one Balwinder Singh. Punjab Police had called it “an act of terror” and one of the arrested accused, Parveen Kumar, had revealed that motorbike was meant to be placed in a crowded area in Jalalabad.
The National Investigating Agency (NIA) is also conducting a probe in the case and on Monday, NIA teams had raided some spots in Ferozepur and Jalalabad districts in connection with the blast. Punjab Police had claimed that this conspiracy was hatched in connivance with Pakistan-based smugglers and a ‘tiffin bomb’ was also recovered from the fields near the border after Parveen Kumar’s interrogation.
The fresh FIR against Ranjit Singh, Jaswant Singh, Tarlok Singh and Balwant Singh was registered at Sidhwan Bet police station under sections 212 (harbouring offender), 216 (harbouring offender who has escaped from custody or his apprehension has been ordered) of IPC and sections 18, 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Earlier, Ranjit Singh and others were booked in the blast FIR under sections 3,4 of the Explosives Act, 13, 15, 17, 18, 18 (B), 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and 21, 29, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act, at Jalalabad city police station.
