Madhopur (Pathankot), Nov 1

Two octogenarians had the Pathankot administration on the tenterhooks by perching themselves at a height of 145 feet of a 225-foot-tall telecommunication tower.

Kulwinder Singh (84) and Saran Singh (82) are protesting the state government’s alleged failure to pay them adequate compensation when their land was acquired for the Ranjit Sagar Dam’s construction in 1993. DC Sanyam Aggarwal and SSP Surendra Lamba had opened channels of communication with the committee. However, sources say, the officers can’t do much as the Irrigation Department has to take a final call on relief. — TNS
