Many condemn character assassination of Special Public Prosecutor

Senapati, November 01 2021: The Mao Students' Union has vehemently condemned the defamatory statements made against Koshia Mao, Special Public Prosecutor (PP) questioning her integrity through a video which was posted on Facebook.

In a release, the union condemned the act of misinformation with malicious intent to assassinate the character of Koshia Mao, who is an upright law abiding citizen, moreover an inspiration to the Mao society as one of the prominent tribal lady advocate who has rose through the ranks as a Special PP through exemplary fortitude and sincere dedication.

The Union also mentioned that the video which was posted on October 28 in Facebook has misled the public with misinformation and defamatory statements.

MSU further urged all involved to avoid wild allegations and clarify on the matter at the earliest.

Moreover, the Senapati District Bar Association in a release condemned the statements made by one Meerajao Kamei, convenor of the JAC Convenor formed with regard to a rape case in an interview which was circulated widely in social media through Whatsapp and Facebook.

The association stated that there is always an appellate Court to approach and the Special PP has nothing to do with it while adding that it was very unfortunate on the part of the JAC Convenor to give such remark when the case is at the stage of charge hearing which is only the beginning of trial.

"The interview which is widely circulated in social media is to form public opinion against the Special PP with intent to tarnish her image.

The case is not even taken cognizance by the Special Court (POCSO), Senapati.

Therefore, the very intention of the JAC Convenor is to create prejudice and tarnish the image of the Special PP and the Criminal Justice system", it alleged.

The Bar association further condemned the statements made against the Special PP regarding the 'Lhukhosei Zou Case' in the interview while adding that the judgment and Order of the said case was pronounced by the Judge and not by Special PP .
