Tesla to recall more than 11,700 vehicles due to software glitch that can activate emergency brake: NHTSA notice

Tesla Inc. TSLA, +8.49% is recalling about 11,700 2017 to 2021 Model S, Model 3 and Model X vehicles, and 2020 to 2021 Model Y vehicles, because a communication error with the software may cause unexpected activation of the emergency brake system, according to a notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The issue involves Tesla's operating software version 2021 36.5.2, said the notice, and the error increases the risk of a crash. Tesla has released an over the air software update, free of charge, and owners will be notified by letter from Dec. 28. Owners can also contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. The recall numbers is SB-21-00-004. Tesla shares were down 5% premarket, after CEO Elon Musk tweeted that a deal for Hertz HTZZ, +10.09% to buy 100,000 Tesla vehicles isn't signed yet and questioned the electric car maker's stock rally since the Oct. 25 announcement. The stock is up 71% in the year to date, while the S&P 500 SPX, +0.18% has gained 22.8%.
