Canelo Alvarez is planning on going global with a UK fight high on his wish list, promoter Eddie Hearn has once again stated.
Boxing’s pound-for-pound king unified three of the four super-middleweight titles by beating Brits Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders in the past year.
His next target on Saturday night is to claim the final belt in the division – currently held by America’s Caleb Plant.
After this, in 2022, a world tour is seemingly on the cards.
Canelo is a free agent, but has expressed his desire to continue working with Hearn – who staged his last three fights before the Plant bout – moving forwards.
The Matchroom promoter told Sky back in May: “I think what we saw [against Saunders] is one of the biggest stars in global boxing.
“His plan now is to go and become undisputed – that’s a fight with Caleb Plant.
“And then from there he wants to go and box around the world.
“He’d love to fight in the UK, I think his popularity here is through the roof.
“He’s beaten, what? Seven UK fighters over the years.
“So he’d love to fight here, he said he’d love to fight in the Middle East, in the Far East and of course in Mexico in a huge show.
“I think you’re gonna see him box around the world.
“He told me that he wants to fight for seven more years, so you’re gonna be seeing a lot of Canelo Alvarez.”
Now, just days away from the Plant fight, the promoter has reiterated these remarks.
Responding to questions on Instagram Live, Hearn said on Tuesday: “‘Eddie, bring Canelo to Wembley’ – I’ve already spoke to Canelo about coming to England to fight next year.
“And he would love to do it, love to fight in England.”
He then teased a potential plan to bring Canelo over as he read out another comment: “Yes, ‘Canelo vs Ryder in February at the O2 Arena.'”
