With 10,423 people testing positive for coronavirus in a day, India's total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to  3,42,96,237, while the active cases were recorded at 1,53,776, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.

Bahrain

Bahrain approves Pfizer COVID vaccine for children aged 5-11

Gulf state Bahrain has approved the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use for children aged between 5 and 11 years, the government media office said on Tuesday.

The decision came after a study involving 3,100 children aged between 5 and 11 were administered with the vaccine found it to be 90.7% effecting in that age group, said the statement, citing the National Health Regulatory Authority.

None of the children involved in the study showed severe side effects, it said.

Bahrain will be supplied with doses from the manufacturer for the 5-11 age group from the start of 2022, it said.- Reuters

Mizoram

Congress MLA Ralte found COVID-positive

Congress Legislature Party leader in Mizoram assembly Zodintluanga Ralte tested positive for COVID-19, official sources said on Tuesday.

Mr. Ralte (59), the MLA from Thorang, was found infected with coronavirus on Monday, they said.

He has developed mild symptoms and is in home isolation, they said.- PTI

National

Active COVID-19 cases in country lowest in 250 days

India added 10,423 new coronavirus cases, the lowest in 259 days, while the active cases declined to 1,53,776, the lowest in 250 days, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.

With the fresh cases, India's tally climbed to 3,42,96,237.

The death toll climbed to 4,58,880 with 443 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am.

The active cases comprise 0.45  per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.21 per cent, the highest since March 2020, the ministry said.- PTI

Japan

Japan to shorten quarantine for inbound business travellers

Japan's government plans to shorten COVID-19 quarantine periods for inbound business travellers from 10 days to 3, public broadcaster NHK reported on Tuesday.

The easing may be instituted as early as next Monday, NHK said. Additionally, the government plans to expand the number of daily border entrants from 3,500 people to 5,000 later this month.- Reuters

Australia

COVID-19 restrictions in Sydney to ease weeks ahead of schedule

Australia's biggest city will lift more COVID-19 curbs for vaccinated residents ahead of schedule next week, while delaying freedoms it has promised for unvaccinated Sydneysiders as officials aim to boost inoculations.

Vaccinated people in the harbour city of around 5 million will be allowed unlimited numbers of guests in their homes from Nov. 8.

In contrast, unvaccinated people, who are currently barred from restaurants, non-critical retail stores, bars, gyms and other recreational facilities, will remain under the tougher restrictions until Dec. 15, or when New South Wales state's double vaccination rate reaches 95%.- Reuters
