Imphal, November 01 2021: Holding the Congress party responsible for the recent pre-poll violence in Heirok wherein a number of people were injured including a journalist, BJP leaders have urged it to engage in value based politics rather than violence.
Addressing the media at the office of BJP State unit office at Nityaipat Chuthek today, the party's spokesperson Laimayum Basanta said that the pre-poll violence Heirok and Andro AC have created a sense of fear amongst the public.
Such violent incidents will deter the public from coming out and exercising their voting rights and taking part in the election process, he added.
Involvement of the Congress party in the assault on a media person in Heirok is evident from the FIR taken up by the police, he added.
Ridiculing the claim made by Congress spokesperson Kh Devabrata that the party was not involved in the assault against the media person, Laimayum Basanta said the FIR lodged has named 13 Congress workers as accused and the one leading them was a person named Tomthin, president of Heirok Youth Congress Committee.
No media person would want to cover any campaign or programme in Heirok following this incident and if the media doesn't cover, how will the message of the parties reach the public ?, he added.
The Congress party which had won 28 seats in the last Assembly election has been seing a downfall with more and more people joining BJP with faith in the works of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N Biren Singh, he added.
L Thamboi, BJP Heirok Mandal spokesperson, alleged that the violent incidents that happened in Heirok AC were all part of violent activities launched by the Congress workers, as done in every election earlier and alleged that all those who were involved in the assault of the media person were Congress workers.
