62% of people are fully boycotting the FIFA World Cup in Qatar⁠ and 64% of people are fully boycotting the Winter Olympics in China

 

As more news breaks regarding issues with the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and travel restrictions for the Winter Olympics in China, how many people plan to boycott these international sporting events?

A survey from SportsBettingDime was conducted to uncover the current sentiment among people, how many will be boycotting these events, and the issues causing the most controversy.

  • 62% of people are fully boycotting the FIFA World Cup in Qatar⁠ and 64% of people are fully boycotting the Winter Olympics in China
  • Event relocation, full boycott, athlete protest, and diplomatic boycott are the most supported forms of boycotting
  • 72% of millennials are boycotting the World Cup, the highest among all generations
  • Human rights abuses by the host nation (61%), racism (57%), and gender inequality (49%) are the top issues that justify boycotting international events.
