Utpal Parrikar, son of former chief minister Manohar Parrikar, on Monday said that he will contest the 2022 assembly elections from the Panaji constituency, exuding confidence of the BJP nominating him for the same.

Replying to questions from media persons outside the Goa police traffic headquarters at Altinho on Monday, Utpal Parrikar said, “I will contest from Panaji (constituency). The party (BJP) should give me that opportunity. I have communicated to
them (party).”

He said the discussions on the matter are on with the BJP, adding that “I am confident that the party will give me the ticket”.

When asked whether he will contest as an Independent candidate if the party does not nominate him for the Panaji seat, Utpal Parrikar reiterated that he is confident of the BJP giving him the ticket.

He and his supporters met traffic officials in connection with traffic management in view of Diwali eve celebrations.

Utpal Parrikar has already started meeting people as regards the polls.

“During one of the meetings suggestions pertaining to traffic management were put forth by residents; and that is why we met the traffic officials.”

There is rush to see Narkasur effigies on the Diwali eve, which eventually creates traffic congestion, he said.

“We have given some ideas pertaining to traffic management so that local residents as well as visitors do not face hardship,” Utpal Parrikar said.
