CHENNAI: Two men who made sexual advances at a woman police constable were nabbed at
Nandanam on Sunday.
The duo were identified as
Vijayapandi, 24, of
Retteri and Dharmendran, 40, of
Surapet.
The 24-year-old police constable from the Armed Reserve was posted on duty near Nandanam signal as leaders of political parties queued up to pay their respect to Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar's statue on his birth anniversary.
The cop was part of the police force deployed for security near the statue. The constable was streamlining the crowd when she saw the duo teasing a few women who were passing by the area. Noticing this, she is believed to have asked them not to indulge in any such acts, when they told her that they were ready to pay her 5,000 in return for sexual favours.
Angered over this, she objected to their comments and informed her colleagues. A group of her male colleagues police constables dragged them out of the crowd and handed them over to the
Teynampet police. The duo were drunk and had come along with an organisation. Based on her complaint at Teynampet police, police arrested the duo. They were remanded in judicial custody.
Vijayapandi is already an accused in an attempt to murder case and an
NDPS case in Sholavaram police station.
