New Radars and Vessel Traffic Management System inaugurated at Cochin Shipyard

Kochi, Nov 1 (UNI) The new Radars and Vessel Traffic Management System of Cochin Port Trust was inaugurated by Union Cabinet Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, here on Monday.
Apart from navigational safety, the Vessel Traffic Management System, an essential tool for enhancing safety of navigation in the port by monitoring and regulating the shipping movements, enhances security of the port waters by detecting and tracking all crafts moving in the port.
The VTMS commissioned in Cochin Port in 2009 has been upgraded with a state-of-the-art system consisting of 2 new radars, 1 AIS Base station, 3 VHF Radios and associated software and hardware installed at a cost of Rs 5.8 crore.

The Minister also carried out an inspection of the Port infrastructure and new projects of Cochin Port during a tug ride in the Cochin harbour.
Senior Officers from the Ministry and Cochin Port Trust were present. The Guard of Honour was given to the Minister by the CISF Unit of Cochin Port Trust on his arrival. A neem tree sapling was also planted by him in the Administrative lawns on the occasion.
