CHENNAI:
Tasmac wine shops across the state are expected to clock a collective sale of 1,000 crore on five days beginning
Diwali eve this week.
The festival of lights falls on Thursday followed by an extended weekend. Official sources with Tasmac said a sale of 200 crore is expected be Diwali eve, followed by 250 crore on the day of the festival. The collective sale between November 3 and 7 would be about 1000 crore. Last year, Tasmac generated an income of 465 crore on Diwali eve and the festival.
"In 2020, the revenue was subdued because of Covid-19. But this year, Diwali is followed by an extended weekend and we are expecting substantial sale in northern districts including
Vellore,
Villupuram and
Tiruvannamalai and southern parts of the state," a Tasmac official said.
In a related development, 272 bars attached to 284 liquor outlets will reopen in Chennai on Monday, after the facility was closed for the past 6 months due to the pandemic. The state owned marketing corporation on Saturday extended the agreement for existing contractors running bars attached to Tasmac liquor outlets till December this year.
In a communique to Tasmac district managers, managing director L Subramanian said the board of Tasmac has authorised all district managers to extend the agreements, only in respect of existing contractors, who have been granted permission to sell eatables and to collect empty bottles in the area adjoining to TASMAC shops December 31 or till the date of finalising a fresh tender, whichever is earlier. The district managers are directed to extend the agreement, it added.
According to official sources, the extension was in the light of bars which were shutdown for the past 6 months. .
