Ericsson says 5G Ride trial brings driverless buses closer to public operation

Equipment vendor Ericsson said the "5G Ride" self-driving bus project has moved closer to full operations following a trial of remote digital monitoring and on-board safety near its headquarters in the Kista district of Stockholm. The aim is to monitor vehicles via control towers to facilitate the introduction of self-driving electric buses in urban environments in a safe way. It said a simple interface can enable passengers to receive assistance in the same way that they currently can from human bus drivers.
