Woman Recreates Britney's 2001 VMA Look for Halloween With Hilarious Snake Prop

In 2001, Britney Spears took to the stage at the Video Music Awards to perform "I'm A Slave 4 U" with an albino Burmese python draped across her shoulders.

Two decades on and her iconic look has once again been turning heads after a New York City couple decided to recreate the performance as part of a Halloween costume that might just be the best on offer in 2021.

Keely Taylor took to Twitter to share a picture of their pop culture-inspired creation, which features a hilarious twist that has helped her post quickly go viral.

While Taylor makes for a pitch perfect Spears, decked out in almost identical glittering butterfly adorned denim shorts and dark green bikini top, it's her other half who steals the show as her python companion.

Dressed in a skintight yellow bodysuit, the viral snap sees the boyfriend drape himself over his girlfriend's shoulders as part of an imaginative imitation of the snake from the VMA show.

It's a touch that has helped the resulting tweet earn over 9,000 retweets and over 139,000 likes, with Britney fans evidently impressed with their creative efforts.

"I love when men are the accessories," lilangiebou joked. "Men are always accessories," Reservoirbunny replied.

Lelanee shared the post, writing: "I love couples costumes where a girl is in an elaborate costume dressed as a celebrity or character and her bf is just her prop." Mikrogrl agreed: "This type of Halloween costume where the woman is the main character and the dude is an accessory or prop, give me more of it, please"

ItsJustJordan commented: "This is what I mean when I say my man needs to be in the background!" _Pettymaddison, meanwhile, declared: "My new goal is to have a boyfriend by next halloween so we can do this."

Joozciofficial went even further, claiming the couple "did it better" than Spears. There was almost unanimous praise for the costume, which was branded "truly iconic" by jenn_oneill95 with meg_williams98 branding it "the winner" of Halloween 2021.

In a follow-up post, Taylor shared a video to Twitter showing how long it took her to put the entire look together, with the New Yorker revealing she spent "6ish hours" doing things like gluing various bits of fake jewelry to her outfit.

The results, however, speak for themselves.

While Taylor and her other half undoubtedly rank among the main highlights of this year's homemade Halloween costumes, they aren't the only ones to turn heads on social media with their choice of spooky attire.

One woman earned similar plaudits after creating a brilliantly accurate Marge Simpson costume from scratch for use on October 31. Prior to that, a grandmother got seriously creative to create a Toy Story inspired outfit for her granddaughter to wear while trick or treating.
