Mumbai reports 267 new Covid-19 cases, 4 deaths, 420 recoveries
Mumbai on Monday reported 267 new coronavirus infections, the lowest daily count since August 23 this year, and four fresh fatalities, while 420 patients recovered from the infection, a civic official said.With these additions, the tally of Covid-19 cases rose to 7,56,214, while the death toll increased to 16,251, the official said. The city has logged less than 300 Covid-19 cases after a gap of four days. (PTI)

Thane: Two held for trying to murder scrap collector
Two people have been arrested for allegedly trying to kill a scrap collector in Thane city in Maharashtra, police said on Monday.Arjun Waghe was found injured with stab wounds in Chendani Koliwada on October 30, after which a probe zeroed in on Mohammad Ansari of Mumbra and Bhima Pattekar of Rabale in Navi Mumbai, said Senior Inspector Jairaj Ranaware of Thane Nagar police station.All three are known to each and an argument started after one of the accused made some derogatory remark about the victim's mother, and then stabbed and injured him amid the fracas, he said. HC temporarily stays work on Powai cycle track till November 18, asks Maharashtra to file reply
The Bombay High Court on Monday directed the Maharashtra government to file a reply to a public interest litigation that has challenged the construction of a cycle track at Powai lake in the city by claiming such construction was in breach of Wetlands (Conservation and Management) Rules. A vacation bench led by Justice SJ Kathawala directed the state to submit its reply affidavit to the PIL, filed by IIT Bombay PhD students Omkar Supekar and Abhishek Tripathi, and in the interim, stayed the construction work on the cycle track till November 18. Maharashtra: Former Jalna LS MP Pundlik Hari Danve dies in Aurangabad hospital
Former Jalna Lok Sabha MP Pundlik Hari Danve died in an Aurangabad hospital on Monday. He was 90 and is survived by his sons Chandrakant and Sudhakar as well as one daughter and grandchildren.He had been ailing for the last one month, kin said, adding that the last rites would be carried out on Tuesday at Pipalgaon Sutar in Bhokardan tehsil here.Danve was first elected to the Lok Sabha from Jalna in 1977 on a Bharatiya Lok Dal ticket, and in 1998 he won again as a BJP candidate.Among those who paid tribute to the veteran leader were Union minister Raosaheb Danve, Maharashtra minister Rajesh Tope, MLA Kailash Gorantyal, former minister Arjun Khotkar and former legislator Santosh Sambre. Ahead of Diwali, beware of 'lucky draw' frauds: Mumbai police to people
Mumbai police's cyber crime department on Monday urged people to not fall into the trap of frauds in the guise of "lucky draws" ahead of Diwali.Fraudsters are sending different offers with titles like 'online shopping lucky draw contest' as well as scratch cards and letters in the name of reputed e-commerce firms to people claiming they have won prizes ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, an official said."They then ask people to deposit an amount in order to claim the prize. However, the process is aimed at cheating people. No one should take part in such contests and should alert police instead," he added. (PTI)
Dharavi reports one new Covid-19 positive
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that one person tested positive for Covid-19 in Dharavi, taking the total count to 7,148. Meanwhile, six more people reported positive in Mahim. The total tally climbed to 10,688. On the other hand, Dadar reported one new positive case on Monday, taking the overall count to 10,374. The total number of cases in the G/North ward stands at eight on Monday, taking the overall count to 28,210.
Mumbai petrol, diesel rates go up
The fuel prices were further hiked on Monday, with the rate of petrol in Mumbai rising to Rs 115.50 per litre while diesel prices escalated to a new high of Rs 106.62 per litre. The price of petrol and diesel in Thane and Navi Mumbai on Monday was Rs 115.64 and Rs 106.76 per litre respectively. Parbhani had the highest petrol rate in Maharashtra at Rs 118.65 while Amravati had the highest diesel price at Rs 108.22 per litre on Monday.
