Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still not at the elite level of his Premier League rivals, says Simon Jordan, who insists the victory over Tottenham doesn’t mean the Norwegian will win anything at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils responded to the 5-0 hammering at home to Liverpool by winning 3-0 at Spurs, following a week of questions over the Red Devils manager.
In the end, it was Tottenham who sacked their boss, with Nuno Espirito Santo relieved of his duties on Monday and Antonio Conte expected to replace him shortly.
But Jordan does not think Solskjaer should be out of the woods for delivering what he considered a fairly predictable result.
And the former Crystal Palace chief expects Premier League champions Manchester City to expose Solskjaer’s supposed shortcomings this weekend, just like Liverpool did.
“I’m not entirely sure who didn’t think Man United were going to beat Tottenham on Saturday,” he said.
“It was fully expected because Tottenham aren’t in good nick and United will get a reaction.
“I fully expect him to get his head handed to him by Man City next week.
“Atalanta [on Tuesday] – let’s look at the result when United beat Atalanta, they had five first-team players out and their best player was subbed at half time before United staged this phenomenal comeback.
“If United fans are happy with him being able to get himself out of a cart by winning games that come after a bad result, then they’ll be happy with being fourth, third, second and never winning anything.
“If the blueprint for Solskjaer’s job is, somewhere in our near future, to win something, then he can’t keep this job in perpetuity, because I don’t think he’s going to win anything for Man United.
“For crying out loud, if you can’t produce a decent set of performances with the players you’ve got, what the hell is going on?
“He can’t overcome Liverpool and if Man City are at it next weekend, they will destroy Man United.”
Jordan has been a fierce critic of Solskjaer throughout the former striker’s three years at Old Trafford.
The ex-Selhurst Park chief still thinks the Red Devils should sack their manager if they want to match Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City – who have proven winners in charge.
Jordan added: “If we’re calling it for what it is, which is elite football management, then it is unarguable, I don’t know who can make an argument to suggest Solskjaer sits at the same table as [Pep] Guardiola, [Thomas] Tuchel and [Jurgen] Klopp.
“He may get the crumbs off that table.”
