New-gen Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe in the works

While the SL Roadster is said to be a luxurious cruiser, the GT Coupe will be a more track-focused offering.

Mercedes-Benz is said to be working on a new AMG GT Coupe model, expected to be unveiled soon. The new Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe will be sold alongside the recently unveiled SL Roadster. Also, similar to the SL Roadster, the new GT Coupe will be an AMG exclusive model.

According to a media report, the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe and the SL Roadster will serve two different audiences. While the SL Roadster is said to be a luxurious cruiser, the GT Coupe will be a more track-focused offering. Having said that, the new-gen GT Coupe will share components with the SL and also borrow the 2+2 architecture from the Roadster.

Reports also suggest that the next-gen GT Coupe will carry forward the same engine and transmission configuration as on the newly introduced SL Roadster. This comes in the form of the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine sending power to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
