Low pressure area persists, rains to continue in TN till Nov 5

Chennai, Nov 1 (UNI) The met office on Monday forecast heavy rains
in southern Tamil Nadu till November five, as yesterday’s Low Pressure
area over Sri Lanka off Tamil Nadu coast now lies over Comorin area
and adjoining north Sri Lanka coast.
In its update, the met office said an associated cyclonic circulation extends
up to 3.1 km above mean sea level.
It is likely to emerge into Southeast Arabian Sea during next the 48 hours.
Thereafter it is likely to move north-northwestwards and become more marked
during the subsequent 48 hours.
A trough at mean sea level runs from Low Pressure area over Comorin area
and adjoining north Sri Lanka coast to Westcentral Bay of Bengal off south
Andhra Pradesh coast across Gulf of Mannar and Tamil Nadu coast.
Under its influence, thunderstorm with heavy to very heavy rain is likely to
occur at isolated places over Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari
districts of Tamil Nadu.
Thunderstorm with heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Madurai,
Tenkasi, Tiruvallur, Ramanathapuram districts , while thunderstorm with moderate
rain is also likely to occur at most places over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry
and Karaikal.
Thunderstorm with light to moderate rain is also likely to occur at most places
over interior Tamil Nadu.
The met office said thunderstorm with heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated
places over Cauvery delta districts, Cuddalore, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram,
Madurai and Kanyakumari districts tomorrow.
On November three, thunderstorm with heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated
places over Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Madurai and Tenkasi districts, while
thunderstorm with moderate rain is also likely to occur at most places over
rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Thunderstorm with heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over north interior
Tamil Nadu on November four with moderate rain likely at many places over rest of
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
On November five, moderate rain is also likely to occur at many places over coastal
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and light to moderate rain at many places over
interior Tamil Nadu.
Met office said heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over
Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari districts and at isolated places over
Madurai, Tenkasi, Tiruvallur, Ramanathapuram districts.
Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over delta districts, Cuddalore,
Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Madurai and Kanyakumari districts and at isolated
places over Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Madurai and Tenkasi districts.
Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over north interior Tamil Nadu.
Thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur at isolated places over Tamil Nadu,
Puducherry and Karaikal area during the same period.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is likely to prevail over
Comorin area, Gulf of Mannar and Southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast
and fishermen were advised not to venture into these sea areas during the
above period.
The forecast for Chennai city for the next 48 hours is the sky condition is likely to
be generally cloudy. Thunderstorm with light to moderate rain is likely to occur in
some areas.
The maximum and minimum temperature will be around 30 deg C and 25 deg C
respectively.
