CHENNAI: A six-member gang has been nabbed for kidnapping and robbing a man to buy weapons to kill a history-sheeter at Red Hills on Saturday night.

On October 15, S Raja, from Padianallur in Red Hills was kidnapped by the six accused. They bundled him into a car and took him away. Police said Raja ran a gambling den in Vijayanallur. The gang kidnapped Raja and demanded one lakh from him, but received 26,000 from him before setting him free near Maduravoyal the next day.
Based on his complaint, police registered a case and launched a hunt for the suspects. On Friday night, a special team barged into a house in Madhanakuppam near Red Hills and secured the gang, apart from seizing three country bombs, four machetes and several cell phones from the accused.
The accused were later identified as Sethupathi, 32, Vijay, 26, both from Red Hills, Vignesh, 26 of Kancheepuram, Balakrishnan, 24 of Kancheepuram, Tamilarasan of Gandhi Nagar, Saravanan, 24 of Sholavaram.
Interrogations with them revealed that they had hatched a plan to murder one Muthu Ganesh, who would visit the death anniversary of history sheeter Palani from Vyasarpadi next month.
