Denver may see its first real snow of the season Monday, as forecasters say the weather will turn on the first of the month.

Colorado Department of Transportation cameras have already picked up some snow dusting near the northern Colorado border with Wyoming on Monday morning. It is the first snow Fort Collins has seen this year. Denver and other metro area cities could follow later Monday. It is the first time since 2016 that Denver did not get snow until November.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, Denver will reach 45 degrees on Monday, with a chance of rain lingering throughout the day. After around 7 p.m., temperatures will begin to drop towards a low of 29 degrees as a half-inch of snow is possible. NWS gives the evening a 60% chance of precipitation. Higher elevations could get around four inches by Tuesday morning, while some areas on the plains could see winter conditions on the roads early Monday and then again late Monday.

The cool and wet weather should continue on Tuesday as the sun struggles to poke its way out. There’s a 60% chance of rain, while temperatures remain in the 40s. The rain should last into the evening, and temperatures will fall to 35 degrees.

Wednesday could bring some sun to region but not much. More rain is in the forecast and a high of 54 degrees. By the end of the wet pattern, six inches of snow may have fallen in the mountains. Wednesday should be more of a transitional day as things begin to dry out and warm up on Thursday.
