Delhi’s air quality index has begun taking a dip creating conditions for health hazards especially amongst those receptive towards weather changes. Keeping this view in light the Delhi government has proposed to restrict the burning of crackers in areas falling under severe and very poor categories, encouraging the use of environment-friendly green crackers with restrictions in place.
However, many see a motive behind it, restricting and limiting the customary exercise of rituals and rites around Hindu festivities, prohibiting the immersion of idols of Hindu deities. Public good can only prevail when everybody’s interests are duly considered and recognised and not in conflict with one or the other section, something which we seldom realise.
I understand that over the last few years Delhi government has actively pursued policies and proposals ensuring everyone’s wellbeing and welfare and there is no offence to it. Atleast coming with an alternative rather than a blanket ban alienating and isolating the people from a faith intrinsic to their acceptance and acknowledgement of their being and self.
In this regard running awareness sessions on the spike in pollution in Delhi NCR would do achieving its intended merit and purpose taking on board all the stakeholders for constructive dialogue and deliberation.
